5 Fitness Trends You Need to Try Before 2020
MuscleBox fam, July is coming to an end… already. We’re not panicking, you’re panicking. Whether you’re leaving the season with sun-kissed hair and bronzed skin, or for our Southern Hemisphere friends shaking off the winter woolens, we’ve pulled together a list of some of our favourite fitness trends to try before the year is out. There’s only six months left to fulfill those resolutions… let’s do it!
HIIT
There’s nothing like bursts of high intensity interval training (HIIT) to get the endorphins pumping (and working off those poolside cocktails). Perfect for the time poor, HIIT combines strength training and cardio for an all-in-one total-body workout, focusing on the intensity and efficiency of the workout, not the duration, so expect to have a killer workout in 30 minutes or less. The best part? Head outside, to your living room, or to the gym to train – a HIIT workout requires minimal equipment and can be done anywhere. Why suffer alone? Bring a friend and power through a workout together.
BOOTY BANDS
Our beloved, trusty booty bands… we’re calling it, a good booty band is the trend of the year and one of the most convenient pieces of workout equipment you can own. Pop one of these in your suitcase, handbag or purse, and we can guarantee you will have a full-body workout at any time, in any location – no gym required. While there are plenty of ways to use your booty band, right now we’re loving them before a lower-body workout to warm up and activate the glutes. Need some inspiration? Our MissMB trainer Sharnie has put together a booty band specific workout just for you! Download it here.
MIND AND FLOW
Sometimes all we need is just a little zen. We know the benefits of physical exercise, but what about the benefits of exercises for your mind? The ancient practise of yoga keeps topping fitness lists and with good reason, yoga has been proven to improve, strength, posture, flexibility, focus the breath, help clear the mind, ease stress and anxiety levels, promote sleep quality, and the list goes on. It’s important you’re giving your mind the same love and care that you’re giving your body each week. We love trying to squeeze in at least one mind-positive workout each week! Grab a mat and get ready to feel grounded.
SWIMMING
It’s time to make a splash, swimming is back and it’s bigger than ever. A great workout for those recovering from injury, swimming is a low-impact method of exercise that’s not going to hurt your joints. Working almost every muscle in your body, swimming is ideal for not only burning calories and toning muscles but for its all round health benefits. Before hitting the pool, try to pre-plan what muscle groups and the type of training you’ll be doing, it will keep you focused and on the top of your game, instead of treading water reenacting Jack from Titanic. No Rose to save you here, get paddling.
CHALLENGES
Unleashing the inner competitor in all of us, challenges will help focus your goals and push you just that little bit harder. From pumping out extra sets at the gym, running a marathon, or dedicating five nights a week to fitness, this trend should see you setting a specific training challenge for the next six months – one that will keep you pushing and striving towards results and your goals.
